How to Make Specialty Goat Milk Soaps

    • 1). Lay out the soap molds. Coat the molds with Vaseline to allow the soap to release easily.

    • 2). Add 1 1/2 pounds of lard to a pot. Melt the lard over medium-high heat until it melts. Cool the lard down to 85 degrees.

    • 3). Pour 6.5 oz. of lye into a paper cup. Add 3 cups of goats milk a large stainless steel bowl. Begin slowly adding the lye. Mix the ingredients until the milk turns a golden color. Allow the mixture to cool to 85 degrees.

    • 4). Combine 2 oz. of glycerin, 1 cup baby oatmeal and 2 tsp. of borax. Add this mixture to the melted-down lard. Once you combine these ingredients, add them to the lye and milk. Use a hand mixer to combine the ingredients for 15 minutes. Continue to mix the soap at 5 minute intervals until the consistency completely changes.

    • 5). Pour the soap into the molds carefully. Cover the top of the mold with a cheesecloth, and store at room temperature for 24 hours.

    • 6). Remove the cloth after 24 hours. Carefully remove the soap from the molds, and allow the soap to cure at room temperature for 4 to 6 weeks.
