- Miniature pepper plants, such as Jingle Bells or Scotch Bonnet, are a good container choice. One to two plants can be grown in planters 12 inches wide by 12 inches deep.
- Regular-sized pepper plant varieties, such as California Wonder and Orange Sun, will produce fruit in planters if the containers are large enough. Grow one pepper plant in a planters at least 16 inches in diameter.
- Some pepper plants, such as Emerald Giant and Sweet Giant-F1, can grow as large as 5 1/2 feet tall. These peppers can still be grown in planters if they are large enough. Select planters at least 16 inches in diameter that are deep enough to hold at least 3 gallons of potting soil.
