How to Release a Skunk From a Cage

    • 1). Approach the cage quietly and slowly with the piece of cloth or plastic. Hold the cloth or plastic in front of you as you approach, creating a shield between you and the cage. Drape the cloth or plastic over the cage so that it covers it completely.

    • 2). Gently lift the cage and place it in the open bed of a truck to transport it. Do not transport the cage inside an enclosed vehicle; the skunk may spray. Keep the cage securely covered at all times so that the skunk cannot see you.

    • 3). When you arrive at your destination, remove the cage from the vehicle and place it on the ground. Gently lift the cover just enough to see where the skunk is inside the cage. If it is facing toward you, quickly open the door of the cage and prop the door open using the brick. If not, lower the cover and wait until the skunk is facing you; otherwise, it may spray.

    • 4). Gently remove the piece of cloth or plastic from the cage. Keeping it between you and the cage, back away from the cage.

    • 5). Wait for the skunk to exit the cage. It will leave the cage when it feels it is safe to do so. The may take some time, so be patient. Do not try to encourage the skunk to leave the cage; it may become frightened and spray.
