Do-It-Yourself Storm Window Film

    • 1). Measure the window glass. Run a tape measure across the width and length of the window and write down the measurements with a pencil and paper.

    • 2). Mark on the film with a pencil at the proper measurements for the window. Score along the lines for both the length and width with a utility knife. Hold the film covering on both sides and carefully pull it apart by hand.

    • 3). Smooth out the wrinkles in the film. Lay it on a flat surface and roll out the wrinkles with a roller. Move back and forth to flatten the wrinkles out of the film.

    • 4). Place silicone sealant in a caulk gun. Poke open a hole in the tube of silicone sealant at the tip with a pencil. Pull on the trigger and release the sealant from the caulk gun. Run the bead of silicone sealant along the perimeter of the film at both the top and bottom.

    • 5). Line up the film on the window from the interior of the house. Press the first top corner into place at the corner of the glass and move around the film. Press the film firmly into place at each corner. Run your hands over the surface to smooth out the film. Wipe away any excess caulk that squirts out along the edges with a clean rag.
