What Is Wow64 on a Quad Core?
- Wow64 provides the framework for 32-bit software to run seamlessly on a 64-bit Windows operating system. If an application is located in C:\Program Files (x86) or the process is followed by *32 in the Process tab of the Task Manager, it will require Wow64 to run in any 64-bit Windows version.
- Wow64 consists of the following files: Wow64.dll, Wow64Win.dll and Wow64Cpu.dll. Intel Itanium systems also include IA32Exec.bin and Wowia32x.dll.
- Wow64 cannot provide emulation for 16-bit applications or applications which still contain 16-bit code. Additionally, Wow64 cannot provide emulation for Web browser plug-ins if the browser is a 64-bit program. To load a 32-bit plug-in, the browser must also be 32-bit.
