Different Types of Fishing Lures
- Lures of this nature are built to resemble a creature such as a frog, injured fish or mouse, and are retrieved by the angler in such a way as to entice a bite from a fish. Poppers, jitterbugs, buzzbaits and crankbaits are all topwater lures that create a commotion in the water and bring the attention of fish.
- Jigs are simple lures with a lead head that is on the opposite end of a small hook. Jigs can be baited with live or plastic bait and moved erratically through the water to appeal to fish.
- Made out of plastic or rubber, these baits are designed to look like worms, lizards, crayfish, minnows, and anything else that a fish chases and eats. Bass in particular fall prey to these lures.
- Spoons are one of the oldest types of fishing lures. Made of metal, they are very bright so as to draw the interest of a hungry fish, and are concave-shaped in the form of the bowl of a typical spoon.
- Most plugs have a "lip" on them that causes them to dive under the water when they are retrieved by a fisherman. Resembling frogs, fish and other things that fish will eat, plugs are fished at various depths according to how they are reeled in.
