How Does a Video iPod Work?
- Today's video iPods hold up to 120 gigabytes of storage, which translates into 150 hours of video. You can download movies, television shows, pod casts and music videos to your video iPod and view them while you're traveling, exercising, or anytime. The screen size of the classic iPod is two and one half inches, which may seem small but the excellent clarity makes watching your favorite television show on-the-go a pleasure. Classic iPods cost around $250 from Apple, though they're not the only iPod with video capabilities. The iPod touch, iPhone and the iPod nano also work as a video player with varying capacities. The least expensive is the iPod Nano, which starts at around $150 for eight gigabytes of storage capable of holding up to eight hours of video.
- Video iPods work in conjunction with Apple's iTunes. In order to load music and video on any iPod, you must install iTunes on your computer. When you plug in your iPod to the same computer, it can automatically sync, that is, load everything you have downloaded into iTunes. You can also set it up to manually download only what you choose from the iTunes library. This feature works well when you have more than one iPod synched to the computer. For example, if you and your sister both have iPods, but share one computer, all of her music and videos are located in iTunes, the same as yours. To avoid syncing with her music or videos, set your iPod to manually sync, allowing you to select the items in the library that suit you.
- Once your video iPod is fully charged and loaded with music and videos, playback is a simple process involving the revolving wheel. Pressing the center space on the wheel or pressing menu will turn on your video iPod and prepare it to work. Select videos from your menu list and you will have a choice of all the videos you have downloaded onto your iPod. Choose the one you wish to watch, press the center of the wheel and it will begin. You can fast forward or rewind using the arrows indicated on your iPod. The volume is controlled with a light touch around the wheel, forward for higher volume, backward for lower volume. To pause your video iPod, press the bottom of the wheel with the arrow and the pause sign once. To stop your video, press and hold the same section of the wheel until the video stops and iPod turns off.
