How to Reinstall Windows XP SP2
- 1). Insert your Windows XP SP2 disc. If you do not have one, contact your PC's manufacturer and have them send you one; there is usually a small shipping fee associated with this service, but you will not need to purchase another license of Windows.
- 2). Restart your computer and hold down either "F12" or "F11," depending on your particular system. You will then be prompted to denote what medium the system should boot from; select the CD/DVD drive. There may be a momentary delay as the system reads from the disc, and then you will be presented with a a few options.
- 3). Select "Repair Windows." Your installation of Windows XP SP2 will be scanned for errors. Any that are found will be fixed, including those associated with SP2 itself. This process can take some time, so it is important that you be patient and do not disturb it, as doing so could could lead to irreversible system damage and data loss.
- 4). Boot into Windows. Make sure that your system is working properly; if your system was suffering from frequent crashing, then it is possible that your system was infected with malware.
- 5). Update Windows using the Windows Update Tool in the bottom-right task tray; all you need to do is click on the icon and select either "Check for updates" or "Install updates." The update process can take some time, especially if you do not update your system frequently.
