How to Fix an iPod That Won't Sync Any Music
- 1). Reset your iPod. Sometimes your iPod will freeze or lose certain functionality, a problem that you can often resolve by resetting the device. Press and hold the "Menu" button and the "Select" (center) button simultaneously for several seconds until the Apple logo appears on your screen. For iPod Touch users, hold down the "Sleep/Wake" button at the top of your device and the "Home" button on the front of your device simultaneously.
- 2). Recharge your iPod. If your iPod has absolutely no charge left, it may temporarily lose all functionality, even while plugged into a computer. Give the device about two to three hours to charge and try syncing music again.
- 3). Update your iPod software. With your iPod plugged into your computer, open iTunes and click the "iPod" icon in the left column beneath "Devices." Click the "Check for Updates" button in the main window and update your iPod software if needed.
- 4). Update iTunes. Visit the Apple website and see if you can find a newer version of iTunes than the one presently on your computer. If so, download the latest update and install.
- 5). Check to see that you have space available on your iPod for new music. With your iPod plugged into your computer, click the "iPod" icon in iTunes and look at your "Capacity" meter at the bottom of the screen. If you have very little space available, you will need to delete songs from your iPod before syncing new music.
- 6). Restore your iPod. If all else fails, select the "iPod" icon in "iTunes" and click the "Restore" button. Do not attempt this method until all other troubleshooting methods have failed, as this will wipe all content from your iPod and return the device to its original factory settings.
