- 1). Rig your fishing line the way you would if you were fishing with a bobber. Attach a hook and whatever weight is neccessary to your line. This rig works most effectively with cut bait or live bait.
- 2). Inflate a medium-sized balloon half to two-thirds full and tie it off. Most any balloon will work; the cheaper the better. Tie your line around the knot in the balloon. The distance between the balloon and your bait depands on how deep the water is and how far down you expect the fish to be. Five to six feet is usually a good length.
- 3). Cast out in the direction that you want your bait to go. The balloon will float on the surface. Leave the bail open on your reel and allow the wind or current to carry the balloon out to where the fish are located. Watch the balloon for movement that indicates a strike. A big fish hitting the bait will often cause the balloon to pop as it is pulled underwater.
