How to Locate the WEP Key

    • 1). Connect to your wireless Internet network. If your computer does not have wireless access or it is prompting you for the WEP key, connect your computer directly to the wireless router using an Ethernet cable.

    • 2). Open your computer's web browser and type the following web address: http://192.168.2.1. If that address does not work, you may need to use either 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.3.1. You can refer to the owner's manual or website of your wireless router for the correct address.

    • 3). Locate the menu option titled, "Security," and click on it to access the options. If you are prompted for a password, enter the password you used to set up your router. If you did not choose one, leave the password field blank and click "Submit."

    • 4). Copy the data listed under "Key." This is your WEP key and what is needed by every computer connecting to your network. It is probably best to copy it down using pencil and paper.

    • 5). Close the browser making sure not to change any of the settings or the parts of the password because this may lock your computer out of your wireless network.
