Apple issues an extensive user guide for each iPhone model and iPhone operating system that it markets. These guides, along with other Apple iPhone websites, provide detailed instructions on every aspect of the device, from its buttons, battery and home screen to its search, message, phone, multitask, voice control and video-call capabilities. IPhone users like you also discover and share secrets and shortcuts. These can help you get even more enjoyment out of your iPhone. - Customize up to 11 home screens filled with apps. Press and hold one app to make them all jiggle, and then drag your most frequently used apps onto the main home screen for efficiency. Drag one app over another to create a folder you can name appropriately, such as "My Games."
- Press the "Home" button twice to view recently used apps on a multitasking bar. Scroll right to see more apps to choose from, and to the extreme left for the iPod controls to adjust music you are listening to. Tap "Rotation Lock" to maintain a portrait orientation regardless of your iPhone's position.
- Tap "Settings," "General," "Keyboard" to toggle "On" helpful automations. Then you can tap your space bar twice to insert a period, tap your shift key twice for caps lock, and begin all sentences with capital letters. Your iPhone also will spell check, complete words and suggest corrections as you go along. Press and hold any key to reveal special characters, including currency symbols beneath the dollar sign.
- To better manage your 3G data usage, choose a sensible size for the images you transmit in the window that automatically pops open with options. To better manage your conversations, tap "Settings," "Mail, Contacts, Calendars," and then switch "On" the option to "Organize by Thread."
- Create a blank webpage app to launch Safari and save loading time. Type "about:blank" on the address bar, and hit the "Forward" icon at the bottom of your screen. Name the page and then tap "Add to Home Screen" when prompted. Save even more time by enabling Safari to fill in your contact information and remember your usernames and passwords at various sites; tap "Settings," "Safari," "AutoFill" to toggle "On" both options.
- Navigate to various "Settings" to switch off power hogs you don't currently need such as Bluetooth, Push Email, Wi-Fi, 3G and iPod equalization. Force-quit applications to prevent them from running in the background. On an iPhone 3GS or later, press and hold an app in the multitasking bar and then tap its "-" badge to close it. On a 3G, press and hold your "Sleep/Wake Button" and let go when you see the red slider; then press and hold your "Home" button until you see your home screen.
