- Too little water will cause the Cleveland pear tree to dry up and make the leaves wilt, curl, turn brown or drop from the tree. Too much water can have a similar effect, by causing the tree to drown.
- Root rot is a fungal disease that attacks Cleveland pear trees and can make it look as though a tree is not receiving enough water even though it is. This fungus enters a Cleveland pear through the roots and damages the tree from the inside.
- Aphids, mites and harmful pest insects can damage the leaves and cause them to wilt. Pests feed on the leaves and drain them of nutrients, leaving them wilted and curled.
