Which Flowers Attract Lady Bugs?

    Annuals and Perennials

    • Planting annuals and perennials to provide nectar for ladybugs will help make your garden an attractive place for both beneficial insects and humans. Choose annuals such as alyssum, baby's breath, calendula, cosmos, marigolds, sunflowers and zinnias, all of which grow easily from seed. Perennials such as bee balm (Monarda), goldenrod (Solidago) and candytuft (Iberis) also attract ladybugs.

    Bolting Vegetables

    • The tiny flowers formed when vegetable plants pass their prime and begin to bolt are attractors for ladybugs, so let some of your vegetables and herbs go to seed. Favorites include carrot, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, spinach, arugula and mustard.

    Herbs

    • Flowering herbs also provide nectar and shelter for ladybugs. Favorites include angelica, dill, fennel, mint, thyme, cilantro/coriander, rue, feverfew, anise hyssop, lemon balm, parsley, lovage and lavender.

    Wild Plants

    • Flowering "weeds" such as yarrow, Queen Anne's lace, white clover, tansy, hairy vetch and dandelions also act as ladybug attractors. They also find wild grasses to their liking.
