How to Deliver Flowers to Someone Who Isn't Home

    Giving Flowers as Gifts

    • 1). Select the flower arrangement online or with a local florist. Sort through assorted flower bouquets until you find the ideal bunch to deliver. If a florist in your area delivers, make a trip to the store to order it in person; this way you can waive any extra online fees.

    • 2). Choose a delivery option. Same day delivery charges are usually nominal, around $15. Expecting the recipient will still be out, select a time of day they might be likely to return. Check the floral company's' holiday and gift specials for free or discounted delivery.

    • 3). Write a delivery note. In the "delivery notes" section of your order, indicate for the florist deliverer to leave the flowers at the recipient's front or back door, entry hallway, doorstep, porch, yard or mail room. Write or give extremely explicit instructions when possible.

    • 4). Hold the order. If you prefer the recipient receive the flowers by hand, request that the florist attempt a re-delivery. Re-delivery ensures that a visit to the address will be made in the next 24 hours when the recipient is more likely to answer the door.

    • 5). Keep the flowers with a neighbor. Ask the flower company to deliver the gift to a neighbor. If you know the recipient's building or neighborhood fairly well, note that you would like the flowers delivered to that talkative next door neighbor who is always out in gardening or reading the paper on their porch.

    • 6). Request a contact. If you're not concerned with making the gift a surprise, provide the floral company with the recipient's home or mobile phone number. An agent can contact the recipient in advance to ensure he will be home to accept the delivery.
