- 1). Watch the weather and make sure that you will apply the granular weed killer at least two days before any chance of rain. It is important that the granules have a chance to sit on the grass without being wet for at least 2 days. Apply the weed killer in the spring before the weeds start growing.
- 2). Pour the weed killer into the lawn spreader. Adjust the lawn-spreader setting so the granules will be distributed according to the application rate shown on the particular bag of granular weed killer you have purchased (these rates vary by product).
- 3). Walk the spreader around the yard to apply evenly, making sure not to overlap applications as you work your way back and forth across the grass.
- 4). Use weed and feed on the lawn about four weeks after the application.
