Crafts With Carpet Samples
- Use a rectangular-size carpet sample that is not Berber, shag or textured to make a doormat. Cut foam shapes and affix them to a block of wood to make stamps. Use acrylic paint to cover the foam stamps. Gently rock the stamps onto the carpet, and continue this step to complete your design. You can fill in the stamped images with paint and a foam brush in case there are areas that didn't pick up the color. Rinse the stamps with water and allow them to dry so that you can store them for future projects. Let the doormat dry for 24 hours before using it at your entryway.
- Select 10 square carpet samples that are all the same size. Use stencils to paint the numbers 1 through 10 on each of the carpet squares. Allow the carpet squares 24 hours to dry, and then arrange them like a hopscotch diagram: the No. 1 square first, squares 2 and 3 on top beside each other, 4 on top, squares 5 and 6 beside each other, square 7 by itself, squares 8 and 9 together and a line with square 10 on top.
- Choose a small-looped nylon carpet sample with thin backing to make drink coasters. Cut the carpet sample with a pair of scissors or a utility knife to a round or square-shaped coaster that measures ¼ inch tall and 4 ¼ inches wide. If you want to decorate the coaster, you can use acrylic paint and a stencil to put your initial on the coaster.
- Select 12 carpet squares that are all the same size. Arrange the carpet squares into a large rectangular shape on a wall inside your home and use small nails or adhesive, double-sided tape to hang the carpet squares into place. Use thumbtacks on the carpet squares to display your children's artwork. Not only do the carpet squares protect your walls from numerous thumbtack holes, the display wall also provides a beautiful frame to showcase your children's art projects.
