- 1). Screw the metal lid tightly onto the glass jar to prevent the lid from buckling.
- 2). Use the hammer and nail to punch four or five small holes in the lid. The holes created should be about the size of the flies themselves.
- 3). Use the needle-nose pliers to bend the metal holes back into place if you inadvertently make them too large.
- 4). Open the jar and place some bait inside. Bait for flies includes overripe pieces of fruit, an inch of vinegar mixed with sugar or a spoonful of dog food or cat food.
- 5). Screw the lid back on.
- 6). Place the jar at the greatest concentration of flies, which will be attracted to the bait and crawl in the jar but will not be able to crawl back out.
