How do I Reinstall Windows XP Without Deleting Files?
- 1). Insert the Microsoft Windows XP installation CD into the computer, and reboot the machine. Press any key to boot from the CD.
- 2). Press the "Enter" key, when prompted, to set up Windows now. Do not press the "R" key to repair Windows using the Recovery console.
- 3). Press "F8" to accept the terms of service. Windows will search for the current installation of XP. The current installation will be listed.
- 4). Highlight the current installation of Windows XP, and press the "R" key to repair the installation. Windows will begin what appears to be a standard installation of the operating system. However, all programs and files will be retained.
- 5). Click "Next" when prompted. The installation will reboot the computer when finished. The Windows XP installation is repaired.
