How to Make Lanterns

    • 1). Use wire cutters to cut a 24-inch piece of fine gauge metal wire. Wrap the wire around the jar, just below the lip.

    • 2). Use a pair of needle-nosed pliers to twist the two ends of the wire together. It should be tight enough that the wire won't slip off, but loose enough that the handle can slip underneath the wire.

    • 3). Snip off the excess wire at the point where the two ends meet, using the wire cutters. Cut another piece of wire 12 inches long.

    • 4). Use the needle-nosed pliers to wrap one end of the short wire around the wire encircling the lip. Bring the wire in an arc over the top of the jar and attach the other end of the wire to the lip wire opposite where the first is connected. This will create an arch-shaped handle.

    • 5). Place a small votive candle inside the jar. Hang the jar from a branch or a similar object. Ensure what it's hanging from is not likely to catch fire from the small flame. Light the candle and enjoy the lantern.
