How to Prune Pomegranate Bushes

    • 1). Cut dead and damaged stems and branches back to a main branch.

    • 2). Prune out growth that crosses over other stems and branches. These can rub against one another and open the bark, allowing boring insects a way to get into the tree.

    • 3). Shape the pomegranate bush to the desired shape. Be careful not to remove more than one-third of the bush's outside growth.

    • 4). Water the pomegranate to a depth of 10 inches after pruning and fertilize as you normally do for the size and age of your bush.
