How to Subtract Hex Code Colors

    • 1). Click the "Start" menu button, then click "All Programs." Click "Accessories" and then click "Calculator" to use the Windows Calculator, or click on the shortcut for your default scientific calculator program.

    • 2). Click the "View" menu and choose "Scientific," if using the Windows Calculator. Click the "Hex" calculator option.

    • 3). Type in the first hexadecimal color code without the hash symbol (#). Click the "-" sign.

    • 4). Type in the second hexadecimal color code, also without the hash symbol.

    • 5). Click the "=" sign to subtract the first hex code from the second hex code and display the result.

    • 6). Click the "Hexadecimal Color Converter" link (see Resources) to view the hexadecimal color code as a color. Type the resulting hex code from Step 5 into the "HEX:" text field, with a preceding hash (#) symbol, then press "Convert to RGB" to display the hexadecimal color code as the Web page background color.
