How to Make a Flower Arrangement Without Floral Foam
- 1). Mix floral preservative with water, following package directions, and fill your vase. Floral preservative will help your flowers stay fresh longer. Filling your vase prior to making a support system will be easier and ensure the supports stay in place.
- 2). Dry the outer edge and sides of the vase with a clean paper towel.
- 3). Place a strip of tape across the rim of the container at the center. Press the tape securely to the outer edges of the rim. The tape does not need to extend more than 1 inch over the container's rim. Next, place a strip of tape perpendicular across the first strip, in the center. Continue to work outward from the center strips, making a crisscross woven design with the tape. When you are finished, the top of your flower container should look like an open weave of tape with slots or holes for the flower stems.
- 4). Place flower stems through the woven holes in the center of the container, and then work outward, toward the rim.
- 5). Cover the tape around the rim with either a wide strip of coordinating ribbon, tied into a bow, or greenery and flowers that will hang over the edge and cover the tape.
