System Information Tools are programs which provide you with information about your machine. These details include both the hardware and software elements of your system. Windows Vista and Windows 7 provide four ways of accessing this information according to your level of expertise and the degree of detail you are seeking. - Use the System Control Panel for information on the basics about your operating system and hardware specifications. Open System Properties by right-clicking on "My Computer" and clicking on "Properties."
- Use the Computer Management Utility to get information about your software settings and about how your hardware is configured. Right-click on "My Computer" and click on "Manage."
- Use Systeminfo.exe for information about your Windows version, BIOS, processor, memory, network configuration and more. Click on the Start button and type "Systeminfo.exe" into the "Run" bar. Then press "Enter" to run Systeminfo.exe.
- Use the System Information/MSInfo Utility to learn most everything there is to know about your system. Click on the Start button and type "MSinfo.exe" into the "Run" bar. Then press "Enter" to run MSinfo.exe. It is rare to need this level of detail.
