Instructions for Installing Car Carpet
- 1). Unroll the new molded carpeting to allow the carpet fibers to fluff up. Leave the carpeting unrolled for 2 hours. Remove the seats, interior trim, seat belts, foot pedals, sill plates and center console. Use star bits to remove bolts or vise-like pliers to take out seats and seat belts. Place all bolts in a safe area for replacing the seats after installation.
- 2). Vacuum the old carpet to keep the amount of dust down. Pull up on the old carpeting in one corner. Work your way around the perimeters of the car pulling up on the carpet.
- 3). Smooth down any wrinkles in the new carpeting with your hands. Lay the old carpet on top of the new carpet to ensure that it is a correct fit. Use a utility knife to cut into the new carpeting any areas that do not match up with the old carpet. Trim any holes for seat belts or seats that have not been made into the new carpet.
- 4). Lay the new carpet inside the car and center. Smooth out the carpeting, so that it lays flat on the floor. Apply carpet adhesive around the perimeters of the car. Press the carpeting to the adhesive. Allow the adhesive to adhere to the carpeting for at least 24 hours before reassembling the car.
- 5). Vacuum the new carpeting to fluff up the carpet fibers. Twist the bolts back onto the car to reassemble the seats, seat belts, center console and interior trim.
