How to Clean Your Registry in Microsoft Office

    • 1). Locate and click on the "Start" button in the lower left hand corner of your desktop on the computer screen. Under "Programs," find and click on Microsoft Office, and this will open up subfolders of all the components of Microsoft Office.

    • 2). Click on "Microsoft Office Tools." Find and click on "Microsoft Office Diagnostics." This will open a new window on the screen. The window will have five different tests that it will complete for you, and scanning the registry to clean it is the last step, "Setup Diagnostic." The test can take anywhere from 2-10 minutes, depending on your processor speed.

    • 3). Look at the right side of the window, where the bolded word Status is next to each test. At the completion of each test, the status should say completed, and will tell you of any problems. Check the Memory Diagnostic area, or the second test, and make sure there are no problems with the computer memory and Microsoft Office components. Allow all five tests to conclude.

    • 4). Click on "Continue" in the bottom right corner of the Microsoft Office Diagnostics window after looking at the results of your test. This window will say Diagnostics Run: 5. It will also tell you how many problems it identified, and directly beneath, will tell you what corrective actions were taken. When cleaning your registry files, the last option of Diagnostics that took corrective actions will have a 1 next to it.
