- 1). Plug the bigger end of your docking cable -- the one that came with your iPod -- into the bottom of your iPod with the square symbol facing toward you. Plug the other end into your computer's USB port with the trident symbol facing up.
- 2). Open iTunes if it doesn't open on its own. On the left-hand side of the window, click on the name of your iPod under "Devices."
- 3). Click on the "Music" tab above the information about your iPod in the center of the screen.
- 4). Check the box next to "Sync Music."
- 5). Click the circle next to either "Entire music library" or "Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres." If you choose to sync selections, four corresponding boxes will appear below. Check the boxes next to the playlists, artists, albums or genres that you want to move onto your iPod.
- 6). Click "Apply" in the lower-right corner when you have made your selections. The screen at the top of iTunes shows the progress of the sync. Wait for it to read "OK to Disconnect" before you unplug your iPod.
