How Do I Run Checkdisk on Startup in XP?

    • 1). Click on the "Start" button, open "My Computer", right-click on your main computer hard drive and select the "Properties" button.

    • 2). Click on the "Tools" menu and click the "Check Now" button.

    • 3). Select both check boxes marked "Automatically fix system file errors" and "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors", and then click the "Start Now" button.

    • 4). When the error message pops up informing you that the error checking won't run until you restart your computer, click "OK" and then restart your computer. CHKDSK will run before Windows boots up and once it is finished you can log back in to the operating system.
