How to High Gloss Ceiling Fan Blades
- 1). Remove the blades from the ceiling fan with a screwdriver. Turn each screw counterclockwise from the topside of each fan blade, and lift the blade from the metal blade arm. Alternatively, remove the blade arms from each fan blade if the blades were removed from the fan with the hardware still attached.
- 2). Clean both sides and the edges of the blades thoroughly with household cleaner. Rinse well and dry.
- 3). Wipe each blade with rubbing alcohol and a lint free cloth to remove surface residue.
- 4). Unfold the plastic drop cloth and spread it out across an exterior wooden wall. Tape the drop cloth in place, covering as much of the wall as possible.
- 5). Hammer nails through the plastic on which to hang the blades. Place a nail for each blade at shoulder height in a horizontal line, centered on the plastic but spaced far enough apart to allow two to three inches of space between the blades when hung.
- 6). Hang each fan blade on a nail through the screw hole at the end of the blade. Position each blade toward the front end of the nail so there is space between the blade and the wall.
- 7). Shake the spray lacquer as specified by the manufacturer. Hold the can 10 to 14 inches from the blades and spray the flat surface and edges of each blade lightly and evenly, moving the can horizontally back and forth across the group of blades. Let the paint dry undisturbed for the time specified by the manufacturer.
- 8). Turn the fan blades around on the nails and spray the other side lightly and evenly. Let the paint dry. Add a second coat of paint to both sides and let dry thoroughly.
- 9). Spray both sides of the blades with clear coat, if desired.
