Buying A Refrigerator - The 4 Most Popular Styles to Choose From

Shopping for a new refrigerator can be quite confusing considering all the different styles and sizes that are available today.
Read on to learn the differences between the four most popular styles to make sure you purchase the perfect refrigerator for you and your family.
The least expensive style is the traditional freezer on top and fresh food section on bottom typically referred to as the top mount.
This style refrigerator can be found in the 14-25 cubic foot range with 18 being the most popular size.
These will typically range in price from $400-$1500 with a nice 18 cubic foot model with glass shelves and an internal ice maker coming in at around $500-$550.
The next style to consider is the ever popular side by side with ice and water service through the door.
These refrigerators have the freezer compartment on one side and the fresh food compartment on the other.
These typically come in the 20-30 cubic foot range with 26 being the most popular size.
This style will start in price at around $800 and go all the way up to somewhere in the $3000 range for a stainless steel counter depth model.
Gaining popularity lately is the bottom freezer style which puts the fresh food compartment you get in most on top at eye level and arms reach without having to bend over.
This style includes refrigerators with single doors at the top and bottom and the French door which is quickly becoming the most popular refrigerator.
This style varies in size from 18-30 cubic feet with 26 being the most popular size with prices ranging from $1000 to $3000.
From my experience this is the style the majority of consumers would purchase if they had the room and budget for it.
A French door style has a fresh food compartment on top with two doors that open like an armoire and the freezer on bottom usually in the form of a pull out drawer.
The latest and greatest refrigerator in this category is the 4 door refrigerator which has an additional freezer or fresh food drawer making it more convenient than ever to store all those groceries.
The final kind to consider is the built-in.
This style gets built into custom cabinets and is designed to fit flush with cabinets and countertops.
These refrigerators are the most expensive selling for up to $10,000 and require a very specific space.
For this reason they are primarily used when building a new home or doing a complete remodel when money is no object.
