- Digitizing programs allow users to transform images on their computers into an embroidery program for their machines. Such programs are especially popular for digitizing photographs and embroidering them on quilts, and for digitizing existing company logos and transferring them to uniforms.
- Many off-the-shelf embroidery designs are available for every currently manufactured embroidery machine. Popular choices include pre-designed monograms, allover floral patterns for embellishing clothing and household linens, and patterns with licensed popular characters.
- Programs are available to capitalize on the different stitch capabilities. For instance, cross-stitch designs are available to use many high-end machines' cross-stitch capabilities. If a machine can produce a given stitch, programs exist to produce pre-designed patterns, or digitized patterns, using that stitch.
