How to Make Your Own Paintbrush
- 1). Gather your materials. Some items, such as horse hair and foam, are most easily found at crafts stores. Other items, such as grasses and leaves, or a sturdy stick to serve as the brush haft, may be found in the wild; talk a walk through a park or playground and scan the ground.
- 2). Clean your materials. Use cool water to rinse away dirt and debris. Allow your materials to dry before continuing .
- 3). Design your brush head. Determine what length your want your brush head to be and measure accordingly. Cut your brush head to your desired length.
- 4). Attach the brush head. Apply glue to one end of your brush haft. If using loose materials, use the string to bind a bundle of material to the end with the glue. For sponges, foam and cotton, push the brush head onto the brush haft. Allow the glue to dry.
- 5). Shape the brush head. Use a pair of scissors to cut the brush head to a point, if desired; for sponges, foam and cotton heads, cut off any excess material. Your paintbrush is now complete.
