How to Make Jean Skirt

    • 1). Turn the jeans inside out. Using the seam ripper, rip the inseams from ankle to crotch to ankle. Turn the pants right side out and rip the remaining inseams. One edge will be frayed, and the other will be smooth.

    • 2). Rip the seams from the crotch to under the zipper, taking care not to rip any stitches holding the zipper. Rip the seams from the crotch to about 1/2 inch under the back pockets. If there are no back pockets, about 6 inches from the waist.

    • 3). Lay the jeans on a flat surface and, starting from the top, pin the front panels together, placing the smooth edge on top. Make sure not to bubble the fabric under the zipper, especially directly under the zipper. Repeat for the back panels.

    • 4). Try on the skirt to decide length and see if the pins need to be adjusted. Cut the skirt to desired length, leaving at least one inch for a hem, and pin.

    • 5). Turn the skirt inside out and sew the back panels together along the pins, making sure to keep the fabric taut. Repeat for the front panels.

    • 6). Hem the bottom of the skirt or stitch for a frayed, contemporary look.
