How to Open the Disc Tray on a Mac
- 1). Press and hold the "Eject" key -- which looks like a stubby, upward-pointing arrow -- on the keyboard. The disc tray will open. Press and hold the "Option" and "Eject" keys simultaneously to open the secondary drive on some models. Not all Macs have a keyboard with an "Eject" key, however.
- 2). Press and hold the "F12" key if your keyboard is one of the "Eject"-less ones. The disc tray will open after a moment.
- 3). Open iTunes and click the "Eject" icon -- which looks like an upward-pointing arrow on top of a horizontal line -- in the lower-right corner of the window. The disc tray will pop open.
- 4). Restart the Mac, then click and hold the mouse as it reboots. The disc tray should open right after you hear the intro sound.
- 5). Double-click the icon of your hard drive to open the Mac Finder. Click "View," then "Customize Toolbars." A list of toolbar icons appears. Drag and drop the "Eject" icon onto the Finder's toolbar, then click "Done" in the customization window. Click the name of the disc in the tray, then press "Eject."
