How to Troubleshoot a Devilbiss Stapler
- 1). Make sure that all your connections are made correctly and that everything is in proper order. Make sure that the air compressor has pressure in it, that the hose is connected firmly, that the valve is open and that the other end of the hose is firmly connected to the pneumatic stapler. Check the staples to be sure that they're loaded properly and ready to fire, and that you're pushing against the release switch that lets you pull the trigger. If everything seems to be connected and functioning properly, that's when you look for another cause.
- 2). Check to be sure that you're using the proper grade of staples and that they're the right size according to your owner's manual. Using improper staple size can lead to jamming, and staples that aren't meant to take the pneumatic pressure can break or warp, leading to jams in the stapler. If a staple gets stuck, then remove the clip from the stapler and remove the power source. Use a flat, prying tool to pull the staple out of the stapler so that it doesn't cause further damage.
- 3). Make sure that the air compressor you're using is giving you the proper amount of air pressure and that there aren't any leaks. A stapler will misfire, or may not fire at all, if there is weak or inadequate pressure. Once you're sure that all the connections are firm and that there are no air leaks in the compressor or the hose, you can be sure that it isn't your fuel source leading to problems.
- 4). Look for broken or rattling parts. Read carefully through the owner's manual to be sure that the parts you're seeing/hearing are not supposed to be in the arrangement that you're seeing and then replace them. Follow the disassembly instructions in the manual, and replace the broken or loose parts with new parts that are graded for your stapler.
