How to Make a Rounded Purse Lining

    • 1). Measure the inside of the purse along the center seam, from one end to the other. Generally, this seam begins at the top corner of the opening of the bag and continues down along the body of the bag, ending at the opposing top corner. Measure the width of the purse from side to side. Add 1 inch to this measurement. Measure from the top opening of the purse straight down to the bottom of the bag to ascertain the depth of the purse. Add 1 inch to this measurement.

    • 2). Fold your fabric in half with the right side facing out. Lay the folded fabric out on a flat, even surface. Mark out a rounded, semi-circle shape that mimics your purse shape, and has one flat side. The top flat side should equal the purse width measurement. The curve should match the initial curve measurement and the depth of the curve should match the purse depth measurement.

    • 3). Cut out the rounded lining shape using a sharp pair of scissors, cutting through both layers of fabric to create two matching pieces.

    • 4). Lay one rounded purse lining piece face up on a flat, even surface. Lay the second rounded piece on top of the first one with the wrong side facing down. Sew around the curved edge to connect the two pieces using a 3/8 inch seam allowance on your sewing machine. Leave the flat edge open.

    • 5). Fold over the top 1/2 inch of fabric around the circumference of the top opening of the purse lining to create a hem. Sew around the newly created hem using a 3/8 inch seam allowance. Do not sew the two top sides together.

    • 6). Keep the lining inside out. Place the body of the lining into the main opening of the purse. Tack the lining into place around the top edge of the purse using a needle and thread and a basting stitch every two inches or so. When you open the purse the right side of the fabric will greet you.
