Double-Hung Windows vs. Slider Windows
- Double-hung windows have a top and bottom sash. Balancers are used to hold the bottom sash open. Adjustments may need to be made to these balancers for proper window placement when open.
- Slider windows open from the left to the right by use of a sliding track. The slider may be opened so the sliding pane is completely in front of the other window to expose maximum screen. Slider windows are easy to operate and have no other mechanism to make them work. They have the least amount of maintenance.
- Double-hung windows have come a long way. The vintage look in historical homes needs the aesthetic value of the double-hung window. A modern verticle sliding window has been developed that satisfies the authentic aesthetics with the performance of a sliding window. The windows are specifically designed to have the slider's ease of opening with the looks of an historical window.
- Many modern double-hung windows have been designed for tilt-in cleaning. Both sashes may be tilted in for easy cleaning on both the inside and outside surfaces.
Slider windows have been designed so both sections are removable from the window casement. This allows them to be cleaned on both sides, then reinstalled. - Double-hung and slider windows are available with added features installed between the glass panes. These features include blinds or muntins.
