How to Baste Stitch on a Singer Stylist II
- 1). Locate the stitch length selector on the right front of the Singer Stylist II sewing machine.
- 2). Set the stitch length to the longest length.
- 3). Position the fabric under the pressure foot so the fabric edge is lined up with the 5/8-inch mark. Put down the pressure foot.
- 4). Hold the thread to begin the stitch. Do not backstitch.
- 5). Sew a line of basting stitch 4- to 6-inches long. Do not backstitch.
- 6). Lift the pressure foot. Remove the fabric from under the pressure foot. Cut the threads, leaving a 4- to 6-inch end.
- 7). Hold the bottom front thread. Pull the top thread to gather the fabric. The fabric will gather if the basting stitch is done correctly. Gathering the fabric is only done to determine if you are making the basting stitch correctly. Do not gather the fabric unless the pattern indicates the process.
