Removing iPod Song Duplicates
- 1). Double-click the iTunes icon on your computer to open the program.
- 2). Click "File" from the above menu, then scroll down and click "Display Duplicates." This displays duplicates that have the same song name and artist name.
- 3). Click "File," then hold down the option key (Apple) or the shift key (Windows) to show the option "Display Exact Duplicates." Click this to display duplicates that have the same song name, artist name, and album. This will yield fewer duplicates, and it's a good option if you have variants on the same song such as a live version vs. a studio recording.
- 4). Look over the list that iTunes displays to make sure they're duplicates. The list will only contain the "extra," not both versions of a duplicate. Look carefully so you don't delete songs accidentally. Click on a song and press "Delete" to delete an individual song. Select all songs by holding down "Ctrl-A," then press "Delete" to delete. If you're concerned about deleting songs you're not sure about, choose to delete songs from iTunes but keep them on your computer.
- 5). Connect your iPod to your computer so the new duplicate-free content loads to your iPod.
