Snakes - Great Reptiles Belonging To The Outdoors
We have seen in the movies such as Python, Boa and Anaconda that big snakes hunt and eat human beings. Most of the time, snakes are related to evil doings such as deception, treachery and occult activities. In real life, these snakes are harmless and prefer to be left alone, thus, they ought to be treated with respect.
One of the large species of snake noted in the world are the African rock python, Burmese python, reticulated python and Anaconda.
The African rock python is considered to be the third largest snake in the world. It can grow up to 30 feet in length and can weigh 250 lbs. Brown marks outlined by black on tan background surround its body. Like most of the pythons, African rock python kills its prey by constricting it. It can live for a year without eating if the size of the animal it eats is enough to sustain it. African rock python is dormant during dry season.
The Burmese python is one of the species of large snakes in the world. It is also the top choice of pet owners who want to have a giant animal as pet. However, the Burmese python is often abandoned by its owner in the long run because it can grow up to 23 feet, weigh 200 lbs. and their girth as big as telephone pole. This size is more than a single person can handle. Burmese python hunts its prey using heat sensors along their jaws and chemical receptors in their tongue. They feed on mammals and birds. Oftentimes, Burmese pythons are hunted for their skin, which is used to make bags and shoes, making the Burmese python one of the endangered species in the world.
Reticulated python is considered as the longest snake in the world for it can grow up to 34 feet. It has a slender body and is rarely found in places away from fresh water. Reticulated python can grow to an average length of 10- 20 feet. They live in the coast of Southeast Asia. Some types of Reticulated python are: Albino, Ambom Yellowhead, Axanthic, Borneo Bateater, Calico, Calico Tiger, Dwarf, Granite Backed, Jungle, Silver and Sulawesi. Reticulated pythons, contrary to most pythons, are irritable and defensive.
Anacondas live in South America and are referred to as the "KING" of snakes because of its size. An adult Anaconda can grow to an average length of 18 feet. But some Anacondas grow up to 28 feet and weigh around 215 lbs. Anacondas most of the time stay in water to support its heavy weight.
These are just some of the large species of snakes in the world. More often than not, pythons retreat from human approach. It is in very rare instances that snakes, if not properly fed and irritated, attack humans. Most of these large snakes live in jungles far from human habitat. If they happen to be found in human dwellings, it is best to leave them at peace and give them their space. Most of the time they mind their own business, thus has to be treated with respect.
