Ten Aspects of Questing

Mankind is by its very nature a seeker, always on a quest.
Sometimes, as in days gone by, that quest has been for food, shelter, or to escape the ravages of changing climatic conditions.
And there were those who simply wanted to know what was on the other side of the mountain.
Today's quests have taken us to outer space, to the depths of the oceans, and often the talk now turns to inner space.
It is that inner space that houses the driving force(s) for all other quests: quests for new frontiers, new medicines, new tools and machines, and new conquests of nearly every description.
This inner space provides the key to self, to the way one lives life, and to the success or failure of one's personal quests.
Questing is as natural to mankind as is breathing.
Without the yearning to know, man would not enjoy all that there is to enjoy.
It is his motivation.
Questing may be divided into ten aspects.
1.
Man is always in a quest to understand his world and himself.
2.
If man has essence, it is his activity of questing for understanding.
3.
Man's uniqueness among living forms is that in him, questing has risen to consciousness.
4.
The quest is to determine the natures of different things; it is an ontological quest, that is, a quest for Being itself.
5.
The quest is for a reality which will make known the real in the apparent, the noumenal in the phenomenal.
6.
The quest for reality assumes it can be known and that when known it will make all things known.
7.
The quest for reality can be known only from within, for the Self is the REAL of the Real.
8.
The quest for reality is an exertion of the Will, which includes and then transcends intellection.
9.
The quest for Oneness is in plurality; not duality.
10.
Finally, the quest is to know the I-am, the Self.
Questing is like throwing a pebble into a pond.
Do you remember doing that as a kid? Did you stay and watch the undulations across the surface of the water? Those ripples merged into one another and created new ones.
The ultimate answer to any quest is to understand that all things, like the ripples in a pond, are inextricably interrelated.
