How to Wire a Humminbird NS25 Fish Finder GPS Antenna

    • 1). Locate a spot to mount the GPS antenna. The location is important as the antenna must have a full 360-degree exposure to the sky at least 10 degrees above the horizon. Test the location prior to installation by hooking up the antenna to the unit and setting in a desired location to see if it can receive the satellites needed to function. The antenna will receive through windshield, which can extend possible locations.

    • 2). Choose your location and be sure that there are no wires or cables where you plan to drill. If there is no way to see where you plan to drill, then carefully drill so that the drill bit does not penetrate any deeper than the material you are drilling. Drill a one-inch hole at the location chosen with the drill and drill bit. Test fit the antenna, making sure it will fit without obstructions.

    • 3). Route the GPS antenna cable through the one-inch hole. Be sure the proper end is routed to the control head. Neatly route the cable to the back of the control head and plug into the appropriate receptacle. Hook up the GPS antenna to the cable coming through the one-inch hole.

    • 4). Secure the cable along its length, using the zip ties. Fit the antenna into one-inch hole. Pull all excess cable to an area where there is no way of accidentally pulling the cable loose. Secure the excess with the zip ties. Leave enough slack near the control head to allow the unit to swivel without pulling on the cable.

    • 5). Drill three holes into mounting surface with the 9/64-inch drill bit. Use the holes in the mounting flange to guide the drill bit again, being careful not to drill into the cable. Install the three #8 flat head screws into the pilot holes and tighten with the screwdriver. Move the boat outside and turn on the control head to be sure the GPS functions properly.
