How to Make a Roll Pillow

    Make a Roll Pillow

    • 1). Buy a foam form, or you can make one by using a flat foam and rolling it up. Measure your form and cut your material 2 inches longer than your measurement. Measure the ends of the form and cut two circles an inch larger all the way around.

    • 2). Fold your material in half with the wrong sides facing out. Sew your long ends over 1/2 inch. Sew the circles on the ends overlapping the long ends by an inch. You will have to pin them on, as it will be too difficult to keep the circle and the overlap where it belongs. If you have never sewn ends on like this before, be careful and go really slow as you turn. It's real easy to catch a piece of material in the seam that doesn't belong there, and you'll end up ripping it out and starting over.

    • 3). Stick your Velcro on the overlapped long pieces, which is now your opening to the pillow. Once you have both sides of the Velcro on, stitch it at both ends and in several other places to make sure it doesn't come off. Turn your case right-side out and insert your form. Close with the Velcro. This makes it very easy to take off the cover and throw it in the laundry.

    A More Decorative Roll Pillow

    • 1). Sew the ends of the pillow over about 1/2 to 3/4 inch. Sew your long seam from inside the end that you just sewed over to the one on the other end. It will leave both ends open a little.

    • 2). Fasten a safety pin to the end of a piece of ribbon and feed it through the opening and all the way around the hem. Repeat on the other end. Turn the cover right-side out.

    • 3). Slip in your form from the end and then pull the ribbon tight and tie a bow. Do this on both ends. You can tuck the ribbon on the inside and put tassels or sew on buttons on the ends to add a fancy decoration to your pillow.
