How to Make a Chiton

    • 1). Measure the distance from one elbow to the other when your arms are spread and multiply this measurement by two.

    • 2). Measure the distance from your shoulder to where you want the chiton to fall.

    • 3). Cut a rectangle of plain white fabric with a width equal to the measurement you found in Step 1 and the height you found in Step 2.

    • 4). Fold the rectangle in half along the width. You now have a rectangle with a width equal to the width of your arm span measured elbow to elbow. The width will sit across your shoulders, and it is the top of the garment.

    • 5). Measure 1 foot down from the top of the garment along the open edge and along the folded edge, marking both with a pencil.

    • 6). Cut to the mark on the folded edge.

    • 7). Sew from the mark on the folded edge down to the bottom of the garment.

    • 8). Turn the tube inside out.

    • 9). Hem the raw edges by turning them toward the inside of the garment twice and sewing it flat.

    • 10

Fold down the loose flaps at the top of the garment.

    • 11

Step into the garment, pulling the tube up to your armpits.

    • 12

Pin the folded edges up around your shoulders, front to back. You are creating three openings in the top of the tube, one for your head and two for your arms.

    • 13

Belt the chiton by tying a rope around your waist.
