How To Make Your Own Wrought Iron Clocks

Wrought iron clocks are one of the smallest pieces of wrought ironworks, making them one of the easiest to make. All you need is to be creative. The whole piece doesn't need to be all formed iron. In fact, you can create your own clock with molded iron pieces and just a traditional clock. To make your own formed iron clock, you'll have to need quite a few things besides the materials themselves. First, you'll need some welding gear and some cash.

Wrought iron isn't cheap, so you will need to shell out a little bit for this venture. As mentioned above, you don't have to make the clock a full formed iron piece. You can simply make a molded iron frame for a stripped-down clock, for instance. While it is always good to make a full wrought ironwork, it is more convenient to purchase the whole thing for certain scenarios such as giving the clock as a gift. As for the gear, you'll only need an arc welder.

For the materials, you will need a clock mechanism, which you can purchase in your local stores. You may also buy a clock plate or face while you're at it. From here on you can decide whether you have to create a full molded iron clock or a simple clock adorned with wrought iron ornaments. In this article, we will talk about making a half wrought iron clocks.

An example of a half molded iron clock is a clock made from metal plates with wrought iron pillars. While it is not a full formed iron piece, it can still be built from the ground up, so to speak. To do this, simply weld a few metal plates together into a box, with its top plates sticking out of the middle piece so it looks like a big fat capital "I" when viewed from the front. On each side of the horizontal bars, you can place your formed iron pieces vertically so they become mini-pillars. On the top, you can put another formed iron piece such as a wing design. Drill a hole into the middle for your clock mechanism, and paint to finish.

There are more ways you can create your own wrought iron clocks. It may even be a good hobby. Note, however, that wrought iron pieces are more expensive the more elaborate the design. Still, you can make a little bit of money out of it if you become really good at it.
