How to Configure Windows Vista for a VPN Connection to the Host

    • 1). Click "Start" and then "Control Panel." After the main Control Panel appears, click the "Network and Internet" link.

    • 2). Click the "Connect to Network" link under the "Network and Sharing Center" header. In the "Connect to a network" dialog window, click the "Set up a connection or network" link at the bottom of the window.

    • 3). Click the "Connect to a workplace" option in the "Choose a connection option" window, then click the "Next" button.

    • 4). Click the "Use my Internet connection (VPN)" option. When the new window appears, enter the URL to your VPN host in the "Internet address:" text field. Enter the address in the "vpngateway.somepublicvpn.com" format. There is no need to enter "http://" or "www" in the address unless your VPN host requires it for authentication purposes.

    • 5). Enter the destination address in the "Destination name" field. Your VPN administrator should be able to provide you with the needed address.

    • 6). Click the "Don't connect now; just set it up so I can connect later" option, then click the "Next" button. Wait for the username and password screen to appear.

    • 7). Enter your username and password for the VPN account, then click the "Create" button. On the final screen, click the "Connect now" link to connect to the VPN and log in.
