Cowboy Crafts
- Young kids will enjoy making a playful horse craft using clothespins and brown construction paper. Cut a side profile horse head and body shape out of the construction paper and clip two wooden clothespins to the bottom of it as legs. Glue on plastic, googly eyes to the horse's face. Cut several small pieces of brown yarn and glue them to the horse as a mane and a tail.
- Kids can make their cowboy-inspired marks with horseshoe-shaped stamps. To make the stamp, cut a horseshoe shape out of a thick dish sponge. Pour black acrylic paint onto a paper plate and dip one side of the horseshoe-shaped sponge into it. Press the sponge onto a piece of white construction paper to create a horseshoe print. Make several stamps in a row to resemble a horse's prints.
- Create cowboy-inspired head gear for a child using a plain straw hat. To create the wearable craft, measure around the head portion of the hat using a tape measure. Cut a piece of wide, brown or black grosgrain ribbon to fit. Apply a strip of hot glue to one side of the ribbon and press it onto hat. Cut a star out of yellow craft felt and write the child's name in the center of it using a black marker. Glue the star to the ribbon at the front of the hat. You can also attach small silver charms or beads in shapes, such as horse heads, horseshoes and spurs around the ribbon if you wish.
- Create a whimsical cowboy boot design using craft felt. You can use use the craft as a creative Christmas stocking as well as western-inspired party decor. Cut two pieces of brown felt into identical book shapes. Place the shapes on top of each so that the toes and heels match up. Connect the two pieces of felt using a needle and thread or fabric glue; leave the top portion open to form a stocking. To create an authentic cowboy look, slide silver plastic buckles onto strips of felt and glue them across the top and bottom of the boot.
