The Path Ahead - ThreeWays You Can Get More From Your Life
"It's not the end of the world I am worried about.
It's how we are getting there.
" That quote stuck in my mind for a few weeks and I just could not let it go.
I kept thinking over and over, if the world ended tomorrow, would I look back and say it ended it just as I wanted it to? And more importantly, was the journey worth it? Here are 3 ways you can make sure that your journey is what you want it to be.
1.
Plan.
Personally, it's where I have the most difficulty.
I am a graduate of the "que sera, sera" school of planning and it has always been a weak suit of mine.
I have gotten better at it, and that means, if I can, you can to.
Here is what I did.
I started writing down where I wanted to end up, and then worked backwards.
This is straight from Dr.
Covey's "begin with the end in mind" principle from 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.
Planning is the best way to make sure we end up with what we work for, not what we find.
2.
Become Action Minded.
If you don't get anything out of this article, get this.
Take action whenever and wherever you can.
It may not be the right action, but getting an elephant into the circus tent is a lot easier if it is walking and not lying down.
Once it is in the tent, you can figure out if it can do tricks.
When we take action, we set in motion other actions and events that aid us.
When we stand around, waiting, we are acted upon, much the same as a windstorm blows down a tree.
3.
Make Corrections As Needed After Consideration.
Before changing direction, look around.
Make sure the "off ramp" is the right one before changing lanes and exiting.
Many times, even though the road is bumpy and the weather is cloudy, a few miles further down the road is the right off ramp.
All we had to do was drive a little more to get to our destination.
We have the right to journey through our life the way we want to.
If the end of the world was right now, would you say that it was a journey you would take again? And more importantly, are you proud of the road you took?
