Teachers Christmas Gifts From Parents
- Your child's teacher will appreciate any small gift, such as candles, coffee coupons, plants, picture frames or coffee mugs. Make the gift more special by including a card with a personal thank-you message from you and your child. Even a token gift, such as one apple, a single candy cane or a single rose is more meaningful when you attach a personal note. Look for holiday plants too, such as a small holly bush, poinsettia plant or evergreen tree.
- If you know your teacher's hobbies or extracurricular interests, give him a gift that helps him pursue that interest, such as a book on hiking or cooking, plants for the garden, movie tickets, a mug from his favorite coffee shop or a book written by his favorite author. Plan ahead for this gift by casually asking your child's teacher about hobbies, special interests and favorite authors when you meet early in the year during back-to-school events in September.
- Give a tray of Christmas cookies you've made yourself or a gingerbread mix from a specialty food shop. Organize the other parents to help you provide edible treats in the teacher's lounge in the week before your holiday break. Include foods from all the major religious holidays that fall in December, such as Christmas cookies, cookies decorated with the green, red and black colors of Kwanzaa celebrations, or a lunch buffet of Jewish potato pancakes with a variety of toppings.
- Your gift will have a greater impact when joined with other parents and community members. Your group can canvass local stores for freebies and discount coupons you can bundle together and give to all the teachers at the school. Because school will be out for a week or two, your teacher will have the time to take advantage of a restaurant discount coupon or a coupon for a free oil change for his car.
