How to Straighten Jewelry Wire
- 1). Purchase a pair of nylon-jawed pliers from a craft store, or an online jewelry-design supply company. Note that metal pliers are not appropriate for this purpose. They will leave unsightly scratches on the wire and should not be used.
- 2). Grasp the section of wire that needs to be straightened firmly between the jaws of the pliers.
- 3). Draw the pliers down the kinked area of the wire, keeping your grip firm.
- 4). Repeat these steps as needed, drawing the pliers back and forth across the kinked area until it is straight. Be careful not to tighten your grip on the pliers so hard that it creates additional kinks.
- 1). Find or purchase a soft polishing cloth. You can use the same type of cloth used for polishing eyeglasses or silver, or, in a pinch, a soft T-shirt.
- 2). Wrap the cloth around your hands. Make sure that your fingers are covered by at least two layers of cloth. Protecting your hands will help prevent soreness and injury from wire burns.
- 3). Grasp the wire and slide it through your clenched fingertips a few times until you have removed the kinks.
